Resumen

En el presente trabajo se resumen las principales características del metaanálisis en salud pública, así como sus objetivos y utilidades También se establecen las directrices generales en la realización de este tipo de técnicas. A lo largo de la revisión se detallan las distintas etapas en la ejecución de un metaanálisis, comentándose con ejemplos las ventajas e inconvenientes de las distintas opciones que se presentan en el diseño.

In the present work the general characteristics, aims and applications ol meta-analysis in public health are described. The general rules and the relevant steps for the development of this type of studies are considered. These points are illustrated with a number of real examples and the advantages and limitations of the different methodological options are commented.
